Dancing out of passion
How VWGIS colleague Snezhana connects cultures through her hobby
Snezhana has been working as an IT Security Consultant for the ITSG Backoffice department since January 2019. The 30-year-old has already won many dance titles and tells us about her long-time hobby.
According to her mother, she started moving to all kinds of music as a toddler. As a child as well as a teenager, she therefore attended the dance school in her home town of Hanover. In 2007, she started taking salsa classes as a dancer and three years later found a permanent dance partner for her hobby. At the same time, she started with the Latin American group dance "Rueda de casino" - RUEDA for short. Success was not long in coming: in 2009 and 2011, she and her teammates won the German championship title in RUEDA. In 2010 and 2016, she won the German championship in Salsa.
After these successes, she decided to found her own dance crew called "Street Symphony" together with her dance partner Moe in order to continue to grow and develop in other dance styles. Since then, she and her friends have been dancing in the premises of the Döhren Youth Centre, where she also volunteers and offers a free Friday dance class for young and old. People from all kinds of cultures often come to this date, as they would like to find a connection. They often speak English or communicate with their hands and feet.
Another concern of the independent dance crew is to support both the dance scene in Hanover and charity projects. For example, in 2017 the dancers performed free of charge at a charity event for the Robert Enke Foundation. The first event this year was the charity event "Dance 4 Peace", which the dance crew organised in cooperation with the Department of Children and Youth Work of the City of Hanover, the Döhren Youth Centre and the Freizeitheim Döhren.
We are happy to have a dedicated VWGIS colleague like Snezhana on board and wish her and her dance crew much success for all future events!
