New event format is a great success

This was the first VWGIS Developer Day

After a long wait, the time had finally come: On Tuesday, April 18th, the first GIS Developer Day took place. The team around the Agile Center of Excellence (ACE) had already called on all VWGIS colleagues in 2022 to register for workshops and tech talks to exchange knowledge and network within the company. The joy was all the greater when it started at the Braunschweig site. 

After all 53 participants, including 40 developers, had registered at the entrance and taken a seat in the conference room, Maren from the ACE team started the day with a welcome. In particular, Marcus, the initiator, and Dirk, the budget provider of the event, were warmly thanked. 

Subsequently, all session donors briefly presented their presentations, so that the topics were voted for afterwards and the order for the day was fixed.

The following sessions were presented:

  • "Using Log Compaction in Apache Kafka as state store" by Daniel
  • "Doc-as-Code with AsciiDoc - Documentation from a Developer's Perspective" by Henning 
  • "CI/CD Mashup" by Martin
  • "Test Automation with BDD" by Thomas

Our colleague Imke presented her topic "Compliance in the use of open source components" in the form of her own escape room, the puzzles of which colleagues were able to solve together in small groups. 

"In my opinion, it was a very successful event that has the character of a repetition. Competence and joint exchange of knowledge is the basis for our success. I am very pleased to be able to contribute to the fact that the event took place."

After four sessions, three rounds of Escape Room and a guest lecture, all participants agreed at the end of the event: More #techtalks, #workshops, #networking and #coding with each other at the VWGIS!
